Surat XI recorded a seven-wicket win against Secunderabad Club to win the 20th Jiji Irani Challenge Cup cricket tournament at the Zoroastrian Club here.

The scores: Secunderabad Club 168 for six in 30 overs (H. Jamsheed 114, Rustom Sethna three for nine) lost to Surat XI 172 for three in 26.4 overs (Rustom Sethna 65, Porous Bharucha 50, J. Hormusji three for 27).

Jamshedpur 207 for seven (Zubin Palia 53 not out, Homyar Dumasya 30, Homyar Casad 40) bt Nagpur 168 (Danush Doongaji 102).

Warangal boys win

Warangal and Ranga Reddy won the boys and girls’ titles in the 52nd Hyderabad State inter-district

junior ball badminton championship at HAL Grounds here. In the boys’ final, Warangal defeated Hyderabad 29-18, 29-26 while Ranga Reddy girls got the better of Medak 29-25, 29-28.

A.P. police in final

Andhra Pradesh Police entered the final of the Indira Gandhi memorial hockey tournament outplaying State Bank of India 8-0 in the semifinal at Begumpet Police Stadium here.

David Raj struck thrice while Afzal Khan, Laxminarayana, Sanjeev Kumar, Rafiuddin and Suresh scored once each for the winners.

Top seed Surya Kiran outplayed V. Prithivi Haas 6-3, 6-1, while second-seeded Rohit Sarwate defeated Tamil Nadu’s Dhruv Balakrishnan 6-2, 6-3.
