Iran’s Experimental and Documentary Films Center has launched the production of a documentary about the history of ancient Persia.
Iranian filmmaker Pejman Fakharian began to shoot the docudrama titled ‘Persia, Capital of the World’ on Monday, May 7.
The film is based on extensive research conducted by Iranian experts and corroborated by Zoroastrian sources.
Accounts given by Herodotus, Plutarch, and several other ancient historians have been compared and information has been extracted for use in the screenplay.

For the third time in the past few months, part of the Achaemenid Persepolis palace complex is destroyed by film crews.
While shooting a movie at Tacher, a palace belonging to the Achaemenid King Darius the Great (549-486 BC) in Persepolis, the crew poured a red liquid on the stone pavements of the palace’s southeastern courtyard to make special effects. Smoke was also added to the effects shots which further destroyed the courtyard. Since the substance was made of chemicals, it is said that removing it would be a hard job.
The movie is directed by the renowned Iranian movie director Tahmineh Milani who obtained permission for shooting her movie at Persepolis from Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization and its provincial department in Fars. She started her work at Persepolis with a team of 20 people and a dozen children. Ironically, the children who were to play in the movie cautioned Milani about spraying paint on the floor, but according to an eye-witness, they were treated “unpleasantly” in return. Read More »

Tehran, 5 March 2007 (CHN Foreign Desk) — In continuation of their excavations in area number 34 of the historic site of Bolaghi Gorge where evidence of a palace denoted to Achaemenid Emperor Darius the Great (549-486 BC) had previously been discovered, Iranian and French archeologists succeeded in discovering the eastern porch of the palace.
Announcing this news, Mohammad Taghi Atayi, Iranian head of the Iranian-French archeology team told CHN: “A black cubic plinth was discovered during the first days of excavations in the area which was later found to have been built by stones obtained from Majdabad query.”
